Bob Coleman is a lifelong resident of Montgomery County, Maryland. He grew up in Silver Spring, and upon marrying in 1975, moved to Montgomery Village, where he currently resides. He graduated from Montgomery College (Rockville) in 1980, with an Associate of Arts degree in Studio Art. He then majored in Fine Arts (Printmaking) at The George Washington University in Washington, DC, graduating in 1981 with a Bachelor's degree.
Bob completed studies at GW for a Master of Fine Arts degree in 1985, in the Visual Communications (VisCom) Program (Fine Arts Department). After graduating, he was a part-time professor in VisCom at GW, teaching graphic design, illustration, and computer graphics courses.
In July of 2002, he accepted an early-out opportunity, retiring with 35 years of service as an illustrator, publications designer and art director in the government, in order to seriously pursue photography and teaching. Since leaving the government, he has been a full-time professor overseeing the VisCom program at GW.
Bob's interest in photography started in graduate school at GW. He has made the switch to digital, using a Nikon D70s digital camera (although he has several thousand slides and negatives in his files). All images are optimized and enhanced in Adobe Photoshop CS on a Macintosh G4 computer, and then proofed and printed on a Epson 2200 archival inkjet printer. Some are then futher modified with filters, plug-ins, etc.
